Our Free Fishing Program For You!

THE WITCH BAY DIFFERENCE IS KNOWLEDGE

What makes our fishing camp different from the competition is the caring attitude that pervades everything we do- from your arrival until we have to bid you goodbye!  Obviously, the daily service is first-rate as previously noted, from cabin to the outstanding service at the docks, including a staff willing to help with those annoying boat or tackle problems that crop up while on vacation.

Most fishing camp owners are busy running their operation.  When someone new asks where the fish are biting, they rarely receive more than a few minutes of attention before being turned loose.   The busy schedule of camp owners never allows them to keep up on the subtle changes of fishing patterns that occur from day to day.  However, since the first year that Gail and Steve Hockett became responsible for camp operations, a profound commitment was made to their guests.  They pledged to be different from the ordinary and create a framework where the latest and best in fishing information was offered to guests – all at no extra charge- from first time guests to those with years of experience at Witch Bay Camp.  It begins with Gail’s mailing of reservations with her recommended tackle lists for each species… rather than just being told “bring spoons and some jigs.”  Additionally, the detailed website includes specific tackle suggestions down to the details of lure size and color.

Quality fishing maps are available and experienced witch Bay fishermen will explore with you and details of location, cover and presentation by the season.  Questions are answered and information is provided for virtually every question.  What are the water levels?  How about weed growth this year.  What is the water clarity?  Are the walleyes on the weeds, rock structures, mid-lake, mud basins, etc?  What live bait is working?  How do I jig for walleye!  How do I use a bottom bouncer rig?  What are the best colors for my walleye and bass crankbaits?  Are muskies still hitting in the “slop?”  What is the strongest knot to tie, etc.?  In fact, there is no such thing as a “bad” question… and guests are always encouraged to ask.

The staff and Witch Bay guests/anglers are dedicated to you catching fish.  The very latest in walleye, northern pike, muskie and smallmouth bass presentations are discussed with the camp goal of maximizing your fishing success.  Finally, the enthusiasm is infectious.  We are always pleased when guests remark on how helpful another guest was… or how much information is shared… because we know this is the hallmark of Witch Bay Camp.  We are proud of the fact that over 80% of our guests return for another Witch Bay experience!

WITCH BAY FISHING PROGRAM

Witch Bay Camp is recognized as the leader in creating a unique fishing program, totally designed to help our guests maximize their fishing skills and success.  The program began in 1996 as we developed a total fishing program that featured basic presentations and location patterns for our five species – walleye, smallmouth bass, northern pike, muskie, and seasonal crappie.  Our goal was to deliver a great fishing experience to you by caring, involved professional anglers that are famous for their teaching abilities and willingness to share and work with anglers of all levels – from beginner to expert!  While we believe in catch-and-release, our goal is for you to catch fish and enjoy the best Canadian fishing trip ever.  We are dedicated to that simple principle at Witch Bay Camp!

Our program is tailored to fit each individual’s needs in everything from proper knots to tuning a crankbait, selecting “good” pike spinnerbaits, or answering the many questions about fish location on a daily basis. We offer our assistance with other problem areas – from map reading and marking maps for fish location to “reading” depthfinders.

The Witch Bay team of fishing pros are ready to assist your boat or group while on the water, lead two or three boats to a specific walleye structure (demonstrating the proper approach and presentation), or teaching (everything from horizontal jigging or casting crankbaits to bottom bouncing). The program is there for you to use… and we like to think that everyone would avail themselves of the assistance. One of the most important hallmarks of the program is sitting down with your group after arrival, discussing what species your group would like to catch, and carefully going over the map, discussing fish location, water levels, weed development, lure and bait selection, water temperature impacts, and much, much more.

The Liars Den is a center of activity as map marking sessions and mini-discussions take place. It’s where techniques are demonstrated – from jigging and cranking to bottom bouncing. The popcorn machine is ready and waiting for you to make a batch… so everyone can talk fishing!

Remember, best of all, the entire program is part of the package price. There are no extra charges – it is totally free. We are there to serve you and help create a successful and memorable fishing trip on our beloved Lake of the Woods. And it is what separates Witch Bay from other fishing camps in northwestern Ontario!
